update on the quilt tops.....

So over the weekend after being stuck in the house for almost 3 days straight, my daughter, my mother and I made a trip to the fabric store.

I was able to pick up all the materials that I need to finish the 3 quilts for 3 more of my nieces. Please keep in mind that once these 3 are complete, I have 2 more nieces to go!
My mother has a total of 9 grandchildren....7 girls and 2 boys. I'm not so sure that the boys would like quilts....once the girls are complete I will move onto the boys and see what I can come up with.

For my last post, the Purple-urple quilt I was going to choose a fabric for the back that was almost as busy as the front. My mother talked me out of it, but I will be using it for the binding instead.

With the other 2 that are sisters, I have the binding on one being purple and that same fabric will be the back of her sister's quilt. And the other binding is green, and will be the back of her sister's quilt. Along with scraps used on the front's and their oldest sister's quilt. I just have to take the time to sit down and figure out how I will add the scraps to the backs.

This is for the youngest sister. The quilt is the bottom layer. The large piece of green fabric is the back which will consist of a row or two of the other colors. The purple strips are the binding.

This one is for the second sister. The quilt is the bottom layer. The large piece of purple is the back (matches the binding for the above quilt) and there are currently two rows of the other fabrics sewn together to add to the back. And the green strips are the binding (they match the back of the above quilt).
Both of these quilts include fabric from the oldest sister's quilt. Those are the many colors of small scraps you see in each pic. So they will all be tied together!

I was also thinking that instead of making an individual label for each, to add the names of the quilts right onto the back. But I have not made up my mind on that one just yet.

And once these are finished, I have the fabric cut for the other 2 quilts for my other 2 nieces....along with a disappearing 9 patch Christmas quilt I want to make. I know what you're thinking...Christmas is over...but the fabric was on sale, and I can't wait to make it. Over the past few years I have begun to really enjoy Christmas (or maybe it's just the music and the lovely fabric)!!

I will update once I finish each quilt, but wanted to share the fabrics with everyone!

Happy quilting!

  1. I have three boys, and my mom made the comment yesterday that they probably love their quilts more than some of her granddaughters. You just need to find the right pattern and fabric for boys. You have such a lucky family. Right now I am working on quilts for my siblings. Then I may tackle nieces and nephews. I have more than forty!
